----------------
Our new free Park and Ride service will come into effect for Calderdale Royal parking permit holders on Monday, 22nd July.
In March we shared news that we would offer this new service as part of our support for colleagues at CRH who would be impacted by the build of our new, multi-storey car park at Calderdale Royal Hospital, which is due to start in a few weeks' time.
More about our new Park and Ride service
To begin with, there will be an informal arrangement in place for 10 days, so that colleagues can trial the new service, ahead of the closure of the main patient and visitor-only car park in front of the hospital's main entrance on Thursday, 1st August.
There will be two routes to CRH: the new Halifax Loop (three stops) and the current HRI to CRH shuttle bus service, with an added stop at Cedar Court hotel (see more about the routes below).
Collecting your permits and key information
Colleagues who work at CRH can collect their Park and Ride permit from 11am tomorrow morning (see times below). Colleagues can also pick up their permits from the front desk at HRI from the main reception from 16th July between 9am and 5pm.
The permit will be a sticker with a unique QR code and will need to be stuck onto your ID badge. The driver will scan the QR code when colleagues get on the bus.
You will not need a Park and Ride permit (QR code sticker) for the normal HRI to CRH shuttle, unless you plan to use the Cedar Court stop.
Following feedback, we have created guidance for colleagues across a range of scenarios covering all shift patterns. This includes colleagues who have a CRH only permit but have not yet registered on Nexus ANPR, as well as those who work nights and weekends, on-call, priority parkers, university students and those who need to pick up or drop off equipment. See the document below or open a copy here.
CRH based colleagues who want to use the Park and Ride service will be able to pause their current permit and stop paying for it when the main car park closes. Colleagues who wish to continue parking at HRI or Acre Mill and use the existing shuttle bus will not be eligible to pause their permit.
Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) linked with CHFT permits will be installed in High Street and The Eureka! Museum Overflow Car Park. Cedar Court operates its own ANPR system. Colleagues will need to scan a QR code on the bus to register that their car is parked in their car park. There will also be a device on the bus for colleagues who don’t have a smartphone.
Times and dates you can collect your permit from Reception at CRH

Halifax Loop Park and Ride: alternating routes, car park locations, shuttle bus frequency and timetables
To help as many colleagues catch a bus as possible without waiting too long, the Halifax Loop will run alternate routes every 10 minutes. For example; at 06:00 the bus will travel anti-clockwise from CRH to The Eureka! Museum Overflow Car Park, towards High Street, on to Savile Park Moor and then back to CRH. The 06:10 service will travel in the opposite clockwise direction.
At peak times, the shuttle buses will run every 10 minutes from the following locations:
- The Eureka! Museum Overflow Car Park (HX1 2LX) - please note this is not the main Eureka! car park (see map, below)
- High Street Car Park (HX1 2ST)
- Savile Park Moor, outside New Lodge Chip Shop (HX3 0EG)
There will be a 10-minute service from CRH at peak times and a 30-minute service at off peak times.
- Peak times: Every 10 minutes between 06:00 to 09:30 and 16:20 to 21:10
- Off Peak times: Every 30 minutes between 10:00 to 16:10
A detailed timetable will be ready to share in the coming days.
A video fly-through of the Halifax Loop route can be viewed on the Trust's YouTube channel.
There will also be an extra stop on the HRI to CRH shuttle bus at the Cedar Court Hotel (HD3 3RH). There is a video fly-through on the Trust's YouTube channel which shows the shuttle route with the new stop.
Amended timetable for the HRI - Cedar Court - CRH shuttle service
The timetable now includes the extra stop at Cedar Court. A detailed timetable will be available soon. You will not need a Park and Ride permit (QR code sticker) for the normal HRI to CRH shuttle, unless you plan to use the Cedar Court stop.
As Cedar Court operate their own ANPR system, colleagues will need to scan a QR code to register that their car is parked in their car park using a QR code. There are instructions below or here, and don't worry if you don't have a phone - the driver will have a device and can help you.
The shuttle bus stop at CRH will also move from 22 July
The Park and Ride service will drop off and pick up from the rear entrance to CRH, near the Women's and Children's entrance. The main shuttle bus stop will relocate from the front entrance to the Women’s and Children’s entrance at the same time.
