It was a huge celebration with old-fashioned 7-Tea parties the theme of the afternoon. Perfect for sharing memories over a cuppa!

Patient comments on the 1948 style menu.
Ward 14
“I had the liver and onions and it was absolutely beautiful and sponge cake for afters. I honestly don’t know how the NHS manages!”
“Liver and onions, champion and quite sufficient. I had the sponge cake for afters too but no pint of bitter to wash it down with. Fantastic considering the conditions the NHS are under”
Ward 11
“A bit more liver would have been nice. Had the sponge for afters. Beautiful food”
“Liver and onions were lovely; Cracking menu and yes would love to have it again”
Ward 17
“I had the liver and onions, a bit heavy for this weather though still very nice”

And plenty of other colleagues chose to wear clothing from the 40s - see our photo bank below.
We were also fortunate to have some memorabilia lent to us like old plaques, nurses badges and more.
Debi Johnson spotted a old nurses' heavy wool cape and despite soaring temperatires in HRI entrance wore it to much acclaim on our BAME stand. See photo.
