Volunteering really can make a difference to a child or young person in care and it’s a really rewarding way to give back to the community.
If you’re over 18 and can spare just a few hours each month, you’ll be helping more than you think. Our Independent Visitors Scheme (www.kirklees.gov.uk/independentvisitors) matches volunteers to children and young people so they can spend time together socialising, doing fun things like ten pin bowing, going to the cinema or for something to eat. You’ll help to develop a trusting friendship and give the young person confidence by being a positive role model…All out of pocket expenses are reimbursed.
“I have been matched with my young person for approximately 4 months now and I absolutely love it.”
“I wanted to become an Independent Visitor to make a difference to a young person’s life; I feel the scheme is a brilliant opportunity for children and young people to build relationships.”
