There was a huge turn-out at Huddersfield Uni for Ruth and Andy who delivered a presentation to 200 3rd year students about working in our Emergency Depts.

The presentation was designed to promote emergency care as a career to 3rd year students who very soon will be making the decision of where to begin their careers.

Lead A&E Nurse, Andy Elwers said, “The emphasis was on management of, and driving change within, the NHS as this was the key components of the module they were doing.

"We looked at it from an A&E point of view with the focus on the reconfiguration of services and how a nurse can drive the changes.

"We discussed the fact it is nothing to be fearful of and it should be seen as an exciting time to be joining the Trust as they can help plan the future of the Trust.

" Under the current proposals there will be a new hospital, new wards, and a new ED and they seemed to really enjoy asking LOTS of questions."

Matron Kate Crowther said: “As matron for the Emergency Care network we are wanting to show how exciting and varied working in emergency care is. It  is hard work but extremely rewarding.

"We want to raise the profile to student nurses and make them aware of what's on offer within our network and reassure that we offer a high level of support."

We have a fantastic team here at CHFT with lots of opportunities, there are rotational posts available any inquiries for HCAs, staff nurses, sisters, please contact me on 07833707074”

The presentation was such a success that lecturer Philip Holditch commented that the students really enjoyed the insight and invited Ruth and Andy back next year.
