Sheffield Hallam was the scene of a double CHFT celebration recently when Clinical Information Manager Lisa Fox and Lead Tissue Viability Nurse Ayesha Marshall graduated.
Lisa (pictured left) got a MSc in Healthcare Management and Leadership, and Ayesha gained her MSc in Advanced Professional Practice studying Tissue Viability and Safeguarding during the course.
We asked them to answer a few quick questions for us:
How long did your course last?
- Lisa: Three years, started September 2013
- Ayesha: The course lasted 5 years part-time
Did you study at home/Sheffield or both?
- Lisa: Both. I did some taught days at the university (9 per year) but the rest was self-study and assignments.
- Ayesha: The course was a combination of distance learning and classroom based depending on the module studied at the time
What was the best bit about the course?
- Lisa: Getting insights into different ways of working, making new friends and links into people working in similar roles in different trusts.
- Ayesha: Networking with other professionals and learning how other areas operate
Was it strange going “back to school”?
- Lisa: Yeah I had forgotten what it was like to feel guilty about reading a book that wasn’t a text book, however I did enjoy getting a new pencil case every year!
- Ayesha: Getting back into studying mode was difficult and juggling work and home, but I had to discipline myself to my study at home to write the thesis. It paid off and shaking hands with Professor Robert Winston at the graduation ceremony was an experience.
