Our Community Respiratory Team is going to be having a stand in the foyer of CRH next Wednesday 16th November (9-4.30 pm) to raise awareness for the respiratory condition Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder as it is WORLD COPD DAY.
Here's what our experts say about it:
“COPD is avoidable and treatable. If you are smoking and have a cough please go and see your GP. Go and have your lung capacity tested. It’s quick, easy and painless. It could be a good decision.” – Dr Steve Thomas Respiratory Consultant CRH
“COPD is a common condition and the 5th leading cause of death in the UK. Unfortunately up to 2/3 of people with COPD have not been diagnosed with the condition so it is really important to help us get the message out about lung health. Spirometry is the test used to diagnose COPD and I would recommend anyone over the age of 40 who has chronic chest symptoms, particularly breathlessness, chronic cough or sputum production, to get a spirometry test done at their GP. The best ways to keep your lungs healthy is to avoid cigarette smoke - if you want help to stop smoking then contact the Calderdale Stop Smoking service on 0800 6120011 - or in Kirklees Dr Andrew Hardy AMU Consultant CRH
