GPs in Kirklees are making a stand in the battle against the increasing resistance of diseases to antibiotics and the implications to health.
NHS North Kirklees Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and NHS Greater Huddersfield CCG are encouraging both GPs and patients to sign up to become 'Antibiotic Guardians' at http://antibioticguardian.com/ as part of a campaign that has been launched.
Without effective antibiotics many routine treatments will become increasingly dangerous. Setting broken bones, basic operations, even chemotherapy all rely on access to antibiotics that work. To slow resistance we need to cut the use of unnecessary antibiotics.
November 18th is European Antibiotic Awareness Day and as part of this everyone in the UK, including both the public and the medical community are being encouraged to become Antibiotic Guardians.
