Our geriatric consultant Edward Sliwo todayretired from the Trust after 30 years.

Dr Sliwo, who did his medical training in Baghdad, came to St Luke's in 1985 as a senior house officer, completed his registrar post in North Shields and returned to Huddersfield in 1989. He plans to celebrate his retirement with a cruise.

He said: "I shall miss everyone at HRI. They have become my other family over the years. I want to feel how it is to be retired before I make any further plans." His farewell gifts, presented at the Learning Centre at HRI, included a photo collage of his career here, John Lewis vouchers, whisky... and a comedy blow-up zimmer frame!!!!

Consultants in the medical division also took him for a farewell meal at da Sandro's.
