In aid of National Older people’s day on the 1st October, Our Fall Prevention Service team held a stall in the entrance of Calderdale Royal Hospital on Wednesday (5th October)

The aim was to speak with members of staff and the public to promote the role of our service and raise awareness around falls risk factors, how to reduce these risks and how to keep fit and healthy.

On the day we were approached by several members of the public and staff who were not aware a falls prevention service existed in Calderdale. Public and staff took away the written information we had to offer and details of our referral route. We also picked up a few referrals for our service from members of the public who had fallen or at risk of falling and thought our service would be of benefit to them.

Members of the public commented, "Team is approachable, helpful and install you with confidence”

“I had no knowledge of the Falls Prevention Service – but I am grateful for the help and advice given”

The Falls Prevention Team provides evidence based intervention for the population of Calderdale, aiming to reduce the risk of falling in the over 55s, through home risk assessment, referring for aids and adaptations, and prescribing strength and balance exercises, when appropriate. We run strength and balance exercise groups across Calderdale.

The Falls Prevention Service work closely with colleagues in the Community Rehabilitation team and Quest for Quality Team, ensuring that everyone is spreading the message about preventing falls.
