Fifty years ago today  (September 22, 1966) the first patients were admitted into the brand new Hudderfield Royal Infirmary. The new hospital had taken four years to build and replaced the former infirmary in Portland Place. It was officially opened in 1967 by the then Prime Minister Harold Wilson. Sharon Bottomley from theatres tweeted her birthday greetings this morning and said she was born here in 1967 and has worked with us for 21 years. #Wow

Our teams in estates and partners Interserve and Lendlease are now tasked with keeping it up to scratch and in recent months have scooped many awards for partnership working.

From over a decade of working on the site, this team have built strong relationships and have gained a good understanding of the needs and aspirations of the Trust helping to deliver significant improvements. Projects have included; delivering modern new wards and theatres whilst ensuring staff and patient safety, with innovations such as nurse touch down bases and hotel-style birth centre.

Long serving team members are Paul Gilling (CHFT), Dan Smith (CHFT), John Ennis (CHFT), Andy Jackson and Dan Murphy (ICL) and Hannah Spotwood (Lendlease). Between them they have delivered over 12,000m2 of refurbishment and upgrade works. (see attachment)

Director of Estates, Lesley Hill said: "CHFT and Interserve have worked together on many small and large scale refurbishments as part of the P21 and then P21+ frameworks.  We have developed an excellent working relationship which has driven value schemes and vastly improved patient-facing estate within HRI."

Hannah, says: " This collaborative relationship has provided long-term value and has significantly improved the condition of the estate and the environment for patients, colleagues and visitors. Best practice, lessons learned and risks have been identified throughout the partnership.

"Working as an integrated team for over a decade brings many benefits and also helps to shape a culture. There is definitely an alignment of strategies and an attitude that anything can be achieved by working together.
