This week our CEO Owen gave an important update about EPR:

Dear colleague

I am writing to update you on the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) programme and our current planning and next steps.

As you know we have been working towards a planned go-live in both Trusts (CHFT and Bradford Teaching Hospitals) for November 2016. Upon review, and in order to optimise patient safety, we have decided to plan for a launch next year and we will further confirm details of exact dates when we are in a position to do so.

As you would expect patient safety remains our highest priority and to ensure this we have decided our patients are best served by going live with EPR in each Trust separately. This enables us to be in a better position for each Trust to fully support the other as we make this once in a lifetime change.

We will use the coming months to prepare for the eventual go-lives by using our simulation centres for teams to run through how they will work with EPR; improving and customising our training plans; ensuring each ward and area is ready with their EPR Passports; and implementing our ‘tap and go’ ID cards to quickly log on to existing systems. It is important to reiterate that our pace, momentum and focus on quality has not changed.

Together with our partner Cerner we are committed to ensuring both our organisations collectively enjoy highly successful go-lives and we know you’ll understand how important it is to prioritise patient safety above all else and properly support you in making these momentous changes.

Regards – Owen
