Physician Associates (PA) students joining the Trust
Some of you may have already heard of Physician Associates – they are a ‘new healthcare professional who, whilst not a doctor, works to the medical model, with the attitudes, skills and knowledge base to deliver holistic care and treatment under clinical supervision’. There are an increasing number of Physician Associates working in the NHS, both in primary and secondary care. Leeds University has started a Physician Associate course and we are really pleased to have been allocated students who will start their placements with us in mid-August.
Over the course of the year we will have 25 physician associate students (5 at a time) who will be undertaking placements covering special senses, AMU, Emergency Medicine, elderly care, general medicine, oncology, palliative care, paediatrics and obstetrics and gynaecology and surgery. So, if you are a clinically based there is every chance you will meet one of our placement students. Dr Sarah Hoye, Trust Lead for Physician Associate Students, said: "We hope CHFT can deliver as high a standard of medical education as we do for other trainees. We aspire to provide excellent teaching, and attain great feedback, so placements can continue into the future. Please make our students feel welcome and highlight learning opportunities. The PA role is designed to provide medical continuity for the multi-disciplinary team and good training is attractive to a potential new workforce."
