Monday sees the start of CHFT’s Phlebotomy Week.
To celebrate, new phlebotomist uniforms will be unveiled, there will also be a stand in corridor 1 at HRI and the week gives an opportunity to showcase the work the department does both within the main hospital sites and in the wider communities of Calderdale and Huddersfield.
For most people phlebotomy is the patient facing front end of the pathology service. The department employs 46 staff and provides:
- A ward round to collect samples from inpatients on both hospital sites each morning with a bleep service for ward staff to call them back if necessary for any urgent requests that are needed later on in the day.
- Outpatient services on both hospital sites with drop-in facilities which are open 07.30-17.00 Monday-Friday and a service at Acre Mills 09.00-17.00
- Community clinics at 35 health centres throughout the Calderdale and Huddersfield areas.
The new uniforms have Caribbean blue scrub tops and blue trousers which the staff find much cooler and more comfortable and is more in keeping with the other Trust departments.
Trust staff are invited to call in and say hello and have a look at how a modern phlebotomy department works together and gets results!
