This week NHS North Kirklees and NHS Greater Huddersfield Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) have launched a campaign designed to reduce the prescribing of medicines used to treat common ailments and which are readily available over the counter in pharmacies and supermarkets.

Part of the campaign is asking not to ask for medicines like paracetamol and ibuprofen on prescription, as £1.3m is spent each year by the NHS on local medicines which are available in local pharmacies and shops, and could otherise be spent on things such as 43 more community nurses.
