HRI has a new facility to support families who grieving and trying to sort out matters after a  bereavement.

The “Certification Office” at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary was officially opened by our chaplain George Spencer at the end of June. The room will enable the team to issue medical certificates and any possessions to relatives privately and also to offer extra support. This will be an enormous improvement to the service  we previously provided, by giving an un-interrupted service in a quiet and calming environment. The new room will also provide relatives with an opportunity to speak about any issues or concerns they may encounter in a more appropriate setting that can make their difficult situation more bearable.

We also provide a bereavement folder for relatives. In it, there is information regarding Department of Work & Pensions benefits, stopping junk mail and a “Tell us once” leaflet which gives details of a government service that informs up to 28 government services in support of relatives.

The room was created after a member of public had gone to collect a medical certificate and were upset about the lack of privacy for such a sensitive issue. They felt due to the lack of privacy they were unable to address their worries.

Estates Capital Team, Jammal Mohammed started looking around for the regarding options to improve the service by looking at options for a private space and Adult Social Care were relocated to enable the certification office to be created near to the General office.

Thanks to everyone for achieving this for our patients and their families.
