Children's nurse Heather Rhodes has been hailed a hero after rushing to help when a little boy collapsed in a park.
Danyaal Ullah had collapsed and stopped breathing in Greenhead Park in Huddersfield. His panic-stricken grandad, Rashid, shouted for help just as our Heather was leaving. She ran over, stayed with them until the ambulance arrived and later, when she was on the night shift, cared for him again. His grandad Rashid was so grateful he told the Examiner who contacted Comms to trace Heather.
Heather said: "I was in the right place at the right time. I didn't do much at all but I am children's nurse. I stayed with them, kept an eye on his pulse and reassured them until the ambulance arrived. Later, I was on nights and was reunited with him."
Danyaal, who is six, spent a few days at CRH with us and the family are awaiting the results of tests to find out what caused his collapse.
Rashid told the Examiner: "He was on the floor and I ran around shouting for help but people didn't understand what was happening. Miraculously, while we were waiting for an ambulance we were helped by an off-duty nurse. I learned later she was Heather to whom my family is extremely thankful. At one point Danyaal was not breathing but she did all she could. Our NHS is truly the best in the world and we are very fortunate to have the best medical care in the world without a doubt."
