Our health visitor, Lisa Delaney, has been out promoting Vitamin D supplementation to children and their parents at Beechill School in Halifax.

Karen Dawson, our Foundation stage learning mentor, has previously introduced a course at the school which involves a two year funding scheme ‘all about me’ attended by pupils.

The aim of it is to help children settle into their school environment in the term before they are due to start – this includes attending with parents so the children can get an idea of what is to give whilst having the opportunity to start building relationships with the school.

This has resulted in a successful integrated review process, as Lisa joined the session to discuss the role of a health visitor and how closely linked health and education are.

Alongside this, she took the opportunity to talk about Vitamin D supplementation with the parents – something which has become a major health concern within the community.

Joined by local pharmacist Sana Hassan, they discussed the minor ailments scheme which operates locally and what the benefits of the scheme are - including free access to treatments for certain conditions which can reduce stress on family doctors and emergency departments

All those present evaluated the session very positively, which comments such as how they would feel confident in passing the information along and that they were much more informed. It is anticipated similar sessions will run again in the future.
