Staff, patients and visitors were invited to come along and find out what our research teams do for clinical trials day last week.

There were interactive stands set up in the main foyer at CRH and HRI, and research staff were on hand to talk about their work.

As a Trust we also support the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) “OK to ask” patient empowerment campaign, to encourage patients and their carers to ask about clinical research.

The NIHR wants this growth to continue, by encouraging more patient interaction and empowering patients to talk about taking part in clinical research.

The day was a great success, and you can use the hashtag #WhyWeDoResearch on Twitter to find out more about the day.

Here are some of the comments from CHFT staff members about why we do research:

  • "Research is essential in figuring out which treatments, inteventions and medicines work the best way."
  • "To develop new targeted treatments for Cancer."
  • "To find better treatments for patients."
