Sister Liz Bishop from the Children's Ward at CRH retired last week. She began her career in the same week that Roxette was number 1 with "It must have been love" and we think it must have been for her to stay at CHFT for so many years.

She said: "I will miss working with the great team in Paediatrics and all the other staff and patients I met along the way, but look forward to a new chapter in my life and hope I have left a positive legacy within the Trust".

Liz started as a mature student nurse on 18 June 1990 at HRI and qualified in 1993 as a Registered General Nurse.

After working at Pinderfields on a General Female ward for three months she applied to come back to HRI to work in paediatrics which was her passion. She then went on to study for her Registered Children’s Nurse qualification at Leeds and returned back to HRI children’s ward following this.

Having gained a Degree in nursing and her aromatherapy qualification she set up and ran an aromatherapy service for children within the Trust.

Liz told CHFT Weekly: "I progressed from staff nurse to Practice Development Co-ordinator and have been a ward manager on the Children’s ward for the past 3 ½ years.

"I have been very fortunate in working with an excellent team of nurses and doctors, who have been very supportive and I shall miss them all.

"I have been to Zalau hospital in Romania with other staff from the Trust and have helped them to set up a playroom on the children’s ward, raising money to help to equip it. I have also delivered training on distraction and some clinical nursing interventions. I was pleased to be part of the team who were awarded a Nursing Times Award for the work done in partnership with the Zalau hospital.

"I have met some wonderful people in my journey as a Paediatric nurse and it has been a privilege to work with children, young people and their families.

"I feel it is time to retire now and put my energy into spending more time with my 6 grandchildren. I am a Methodist Local Preacher, I deliver Safeguarding training to churches and I am also West Yorkshire District Advocate for Action for Children. I will be able to give more time to these areas in my life and intend to do some volunteering too.

"My husband Peter retires in August and we intend to have some holidays away as doing all the other things we are involved in".

Good luck Liz  - sounds like you'll still have your hands full!
