Another set of free Mindfulness courses aimed at supporting the health and wellbeing of CHFT colleagues are due to begin later this month. This course is a partnership run by Workforce Wellbeing and Chaplaincy.

Medical secretary, Geraldine Peters, who has recently completed the course told us about her experience:

"I saw the Mindfulness Course advertised on the intranet. I generally try and sign up for courses aimed at personal development, and although I had dipped a toe in the mindfulness waters previously, I felt I would like to find out more. I found the six weeks to be really beneficial; firstly, it was a chance at the end of a hectic day to go and take some time out and focus completely on my inner self, and to let go of all the pressures of the working day. Secondly, it is a chance to spend time with like-minded people and share experiences of mindfulness.

"Learning the mindfulness tools and how to apply them certainly helps me in my day to day life, both in and outside of work. It helps me to deal differently with various situations; instead of reacting immediately, rather to take a breath and a moment, and therefore approaching the situation from a different and calmer perspective. It also makes me more aware of the importance of practising kindness, not only to others but also to myself.

"As far as recommending the course to colleagues; I would say that if a person is prepared to enter the course with an open mind and a readiness to let go of preconceptions, and just to embrace mindfulness, then everyone can benefit from what it has to offer. Jill and Prasadu delivered the course really well, putting everyone at ease, and I didn’t feel that anyone felt awkward or embarrassed during the process. I feel the course was of real benefit to me, and would definitely recommend it to others".

There are two courses on offer - one at each site. The first starts on Thursday 21 April 2016 at 4.45pm – 6.15pm in the Learning Centre at CRH, and the second starts on Friday 22 April 2016 at 10.00am – 11.30 am in the Learning & Development Centre at HRI.
