On Tuesday the 57-strong inspection team will begin their three and a half day visit to us.
They spend Tuesday and Wednesday at HRI and in Community, and on Thursday they're at CRH and Community.
Here's a summary of each day's plan (as it is now), plus guidance for colleagues about what to do if the inspection team come to your area.
What's happening and when?
The team of inspectors (you''ll recognise them by their purple lanyards) will be based at HRI in the Learning Centre. On Tuesday they'll have a presentation from CEO Owen Williams, where he'll give his thoughts about CHFT. From there this is how it looks in summary:
- In the afternoon they'll start their inspection at HRI and in Community, as well as hold individual interviews with the directors, and junior doctors focus groups. You can see all the focus groups being held on our CQC page.
- On Wednesday they continue at HRI and in Community. There will be more focus groups too, as well as interviews with key members of staff (these are already arranged).
- Thursday is on site at CRH as well as continuing in Community, with more focus groups and interviews being held.
- Friday morning is when they'll mop-up if they need to, with the team leaving CHFT at lunchtime.
Please take the opportunity to attend the staff focus groups based on your role. It's important that as many people tell them about what it's like to work here as possible.
What you should do if the team come to you
We've prepared a full briefing (attached) for colleagues. Please take some time to familarise yourself with it - it explains what to do when they arrive, about showing them information, what to do when they've left your area and extra support information. There is also an Inspection Feedback Form to be completed, which will help us gather information centrally.
Central support team
Colleagues from Quality are centrally supporting the inspection process - they'll be manning our office until 8pm next Tues, Wed and Thursday.
They will be the point of contact for much of the inspection, though particularly around additional information requests. They'll be keeping track of what we've been asked to provide for our own audit purposes. It's possible one of the central team may contact you to request extra information. They also have a team on standby to come to you if the information cannot be provided electronically.

We'll need to know if they've been to your area, along with other information
There is an Inspection Feedback Form in the attached briefing. It must be completed by a ward or department manager after the inspection team have left your area (or alternatively phoned through).
Earlier this week (Monday and Tuesday) the CQC set up shop in our hospitals (main picture), talking to members of the public about the services they receive at CHFT. This will help form part of their response, and they'll continue to talk to patients, visitors and others when on site next week.
Please.....don't forget to have a couple of things you're really proud of to share with the CQC.
And finally....the I need to know - staff information file is now on the intranet
Each ward/department has an “I need to know file” – with lots of useful information and resources to support teams and colleagues across a wide range of topics.
You’ll find everything in it at Home/Publications/General/I need to know – staff information
