It's important to monitor fridge temperatures every 24 hours, or it could end up with us having to destroy whole batches of medication.

 

There is a monitoring form to complete too. All the information you need is in Medicine Code 11. 

 

 

ACTIONS IF OUT OF RANGE

  • If reading outside limits 2C to 8C reset, read and record in one hour
  • If still reading outside limits 2C to 8C reset and contact HRI Estates or CRH Helpline for advice on the fridge and the Pharmacy Department (Emergency Duty Pharmacist out of hours) for advice on the contents
  • Add any comments regarding cold storage in the designated column
  • Discuss any problems/issues with cold storage with the Ward Manager/Nurse in Charge

 

Where the temperature monitoring device has a reset function, ALWAYS RESET the minimum and maximum temperature after recording the information.
