Following work between the Area Prescribing Committee and Wound Management Committee, the Tissue Viability Nurses and Pharmacy, a decision has been made to change from Cavilon to MediDerma-S.

The Trust moved away from the use of Cavilon to MEDI DERMA-S from week commencing 22nd February.

Tissue Viability Nurse, Linda Firth, told us: "After evaluating the benefits of the change, the feedback we received was very positive. We found the benefits for patients to be very good in preventing mositure skin damage." 

With this in mind, our team held information stands at both sites in the Main entrance of each hospital site on Wednesday and Thursday.

These are the product sizes that have been selected:

• MEDI DERMA-S Medical Barrier film 30 ml Pump spray
• 1ml applicator (5pack)
• MEDI DERMA-S barrier cream 2g sachets (20 pack)
   

These products are not supplied through Pharmacy, but via Materials Management within the Trust.

Remember - After the swap, to avoid waste, wards can continue to use current stocks of Cavilon stocks, but orders after the end of February must be for MediDerma-S.
