Endoscopy at HRI was this week told the were "exemplary" or  "5*s if theywere on Tripadvisor", according to one patient.

She praised the whole care she received from the team, the environment and the communications throughout her appointment on Saturday.

Senior Sister, Susan Higo, said: "I feel very proud. There are lots of individuals in endoscopy, but it's the teamwork that makes us special for our patients. We are lucky, we regularly get nice comments and it is great that people have taken the time to send them in."

Staff nurse, Mohammed Khalil who was singled our for praise by the patient, said: "We try to use basic language because people don't know what to expect. Embarrassment can be a big factor, so we try to put them at their ease. It's all about our patients."

Hello, I would like to give some feedback about my experience in the Endoscopy unit at HRI on Saturday 20th February.

I had attended for a Bowel Scope Screening test which had the opportunity to be an embarrassing and or painful procedure. I have to say, however, my experience was neither as the staff involved were exemplary from start to finish.

The waiting area was bright and clean and the receptionist was prompt and clear in her explanations. I was taken through to a consultation room where a thorough and detailed explanation was given by Mohammed. At no point did I feel rushed and all my questions were answered.

The procedure was carried out by a lovely team of 4 staff who were professional from start to finish. They used language and humour appropriate to the situation and I could tell they had the ability to adapt this to an individual person’s requirements. They were clinically professional and gave very clear explanations at all times. At one point I was in some discomfort and this was picked up by the lead nurse.

Following the procedure I was very well looked after in the recovery areas and was even made a cup of tea. I never felt rushed and was given clear advice about what to do in case of any problems.

In summary: the department was spotlessly clean, I felt my dignity and privacy was respected at all times and the staff acted in a professional and clinically competent way throughout. I would highly rate this department and if on TripAdvisor would give it a 5* rating.
