The staff lottery could help you get equipment...as Sue Raine from Paediatric Diabetes team explains....

Is there something on your department’s wish list and you don’t have charitable funds to pay for it?  Maybe the Staff Lottery can help.

It should not be an item which the Trust should purchase through normal expenditure.  If the item is for the benefit of patients or staff and is no more than £5,000 – you could make a bid for it through the Staff Lottery Committee!

‘The Paediatric Diabetes team, based at HRI, were delighted when their bid for funds to contribute towards a ‘Dexcom CGM’ was approved by the Staff Lottery Committee in 2015.  The Dexcom is a remote continuous glucose monitoring system which uses Bluetooth technology to allow for complete remote viewing of glucose levels.

After some fantastic fundraising by both the Freemasons and the Parent Support Group, who kindly donated £2000, the team were within touching distance of adding the Dexcom to their resources.

Sue Raine, Admin Assistant in the team said “We had raised almost enough funds to purchase the Dexcom but were just short of reaching the final amount.  We applied to the Staff Lottery Committee and were really pleased when the bid was accepted.  The Dexcom is out in use and is making a difference to families in the community”.

Other examples of successful bids include an iPad for Children’s Therapy’s, a fridge for the Research Team and furniture for the viewing rooms at the mortuaries.

Don’t forget you can also apply to join the staff lottery – it is £2 per chance, a monthly grand prize of £1,000 and other prizes, not forgetting the bumper £5,000 prize in the November draw.

Would you be interested in joining the Staff Lottery Committee and helping to decide where the funds are spent?  The committee meets quarterly at Acre Mills and we would love to see more colleagues join us and help to make our decisions on bids received.  For more information, including how to join the lottery, please visit the staff lottery pages here: http://nww.cht.nhs.uk/staff-zone/staff-lottery/  If you would like more information about joining the committee, please email Judith Cruickshank:  Judith.cruickshank@cht.nhs.uk
