Our staff nurse Jane Jowett has designed a poster to help diagnose sepsis in children.
It is a difficult one to diagnose as, cruelly, it easier to diagnose the sicker the child is - which often is too late.
Jane's posters will go up on Wards 3, 18 and A&E on both sites to alert staff to the signs and to ensure early detection. Once it is suspected, a blood test will confirm it and Jane's poster has a traffic lights design.
Her colleague, clinical manager, Joanne Reed, said: " Jane is a very keen staff nurse with a big interest in sepsis in children. We get a lot of children coming in with sepsis but most of the time it is treated easily."
Jane's guide should help with the diagnosis.
