Volunteers and chaplains from the Trust’s Chaplaincy have undertaken dementia awareness training as a step towards making the department dementia friendly. The training was led by Eileen Rudden from Age UK in conjunction with Kirklees Dementia Action Alliance, and formed part of the national initiative to recruit one million dementia friends nationwide – a target which has been recently reached. The training busted myths about dementia and encouraged participants to consider one practical action to take to help people feel included in their community.

Hospital Chaplain George Spencer said: "We come across so many people with dementia in our hospitals and they can find them very frightening or bewildering places. We wanted to look at dementia and increase our understanding of it so we can try and support people effectively. There is more to a person that the dementia.”
