Child Health Care Closer To Home C3

Away from home project - Children Health Care closer to home C3 is a project which has been running for the last 16 months, it  has two pilot sites one at Innovations Childrens Centre and the other at Meltham Road Surgery Huddersfield.

The main drivers are to ensure patient views and experiences are at the heart of the project.

On the 16th September, Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner Locala Community Partnership, Amanda Barwick & Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner, Ian Melling, presented the project at a conference in Birmingham- “Innovations in Paediatric Community Practice” (see attachments).

The study day was chaired by Kath Evans NHS England head of patient experience for Maternity, Children and young people.

Childrens services general manager, Gill Harries, told us, "It was a very informative study day and was interesting to discuss practice in other areas of the country and develop a network to share good practice."

On November 27th, the UK Sikh Healthcare Chaplaincy Group organised a day of prayer at CHFT.

The event aimed to promoting community links between the NHS and the Sikh community.

Members of the Sikh faith came to HRI to perform a prayer known as Ardas (see attachments).

Members of the Sikh community made up from various Gurdwaras, Sikh voluntary organisations and Sikh student societies took part in the day ensuring that all UK hospitals prayed for the well-being, recovery and good spirits of those who are currently in hospital and for World Peace.

The vibrations of the prayer helped reach out to all, regardless of faith, race or gender, and the hope for the day was that it will also result in raising awareness within the Sikh community of Sikh chaplain (sewak) volunteering opportunities across hospitals in the UK.

By creating a link between hospital chaplains and their local Sikh community, the two can work together at recruiting new chaplains from the Sikh Community to the various hospitals.

Hospital Chaplain, George Spencer, told us "The intention for the day was for the prayer to reach out to all, regardless of faith, race or gender."

"This is the third year the Ardas has been prayed in our hospitals and was organised by our honorary Sikh chaplain, Mr Harbinder Singh.”
