Do you want an opportunity to hear what having a CQC inspection REALLY means for frontline healthcare professionals? Then this is your chance.

Elaine Jeffers works with the CQC as a specialist clinical advisor and Independent Chair and has undertaken a number of comprehensive inspections.  She has a clinical background and 30 years’ experience in the NHS and has supported Bradford Teaching Hospitals with their inspection.

Our Quality Improvement Manager, Alison Lodge, said:  " When we visited Bradford to hear how they had managed their inspection, everyone came away feeling that Elaine had really brought it to life. So we’re extremely fortunate she agreed to come to our Trust so colleagues can have a similar experience and get a feeling of how it will affect them.

"I sat there listening and I was enthralled. The hour just went by in a flash."

Elaine gave the inside view on aspects of the CQC inspection including things like:

  • Preparation - simple things like going round and tidying up, getting notice boards updated, keeping a focus on what we do well and being able to evidence this and show that we measure and improve.
  • Helping us to understand the style of the questioning. For instance; if we were talking about safe staffing, they would ask for more information on staffing levels and patient activity; where there are staffing concerns; would ask about decision-making and what escalation route was used, what response you received and if you were listened to, etc.
  • The areas where inspectors may turn up - this could be attending bed meetings and at handover times
  • The importance of people taking personal responsibility.  This is their inspection and therefore need to own it.

We have booked three sessions on Monday 14 December to give colleagues the opportunity to come along.  The sessions will be interactive and Elaine will provide opportunities for you to raise issues for discussion and debate.
