World Prematurity Day is marked across the globe, and the nursing staff from our Special Care Baby unit did a fantastic job once again at bringing those memories to our Trust.

By organising a cake sale in the Ingleton Falls Restaurant and gathering lots and lots of donations of baked goods, Debbie Martin (neonatal sister) and other members of the team helped to raise an amazing £444.46 for the charity, Bliss.

Bliss Champion/peer support volunteer, Michelle Berry, told us: "I think this is a fantastic achievement, and the event was supported by lots of families whose babies have spent time on the special care unit."

Acute Medicine Awareness raised £83 for the ward and will be putting it towards something to improve patient experience, possibly a plumbed in cold water dispenser in the Ambulatory Unit.

Stacey McGowan told us on behalf of her team: "A big thank you for everyone who came at supported us."

They were encopuraged to hold an event by SAM (Society of Acute Medicine) whose conferences they regularly attend as this provides an opportunity for networking in order to make contacts for further sharing, all to improve patient outcomes and experience throughout the Trust.

With this in mind and with encouragement from the society, our team held a bake sale at CRH on Thursday (19 Nov), in order to raise the profile of Acute Medicine with all raised funds going to the Acute Medical Unit.
