CHFT helps churches to become dementia friendly

Recently CHFT colleagues Barbara Schofield and Rev George Spencer, joined forces with representatives from Kirkless Dementia Action Alliance to put on a training day for members from local churches and the Chaplaincy to learn more about dementia.

The day included a sessions on increasing understanding of the disease, challenging myths about it, and considering how churches could further their support to people with dementia and their carers.

The day ended with a Dementia Awareness  Information Session from the Alzheimer’s Society, and the photograph shows participants holding up their Dementia Friends pledges.

It is hoped the church members will take their insights and enthusiasm back to their churches to foster change there.

World Antibiotic Awareness Week (16-22nd November)

The Trust is extending invitations to everyone to become Antibiotic Guardians.

Colleagues can Pick a Pledge here online about how they will make better use of antibiotics and help save these vital medicines from becoming obsolete.

You can also pick a pledge and add your name to our "Pledge Walls” in the Learning Centres at both hospitals.

Louise Tweddell and Sarah Denobriga (pictured) have been to the Learning centres at both hospitals, with the aim of reaching out to as many people as possible to become Anitbiotic Guardians.

Acute medicine awareness bake sale

Our Acute Medical Unit, who are members of the Society of Acute Medicine (SAM), regularly attend annual conferences that provide teaching sessions for both doctors and nursing staff on various subjects.

This provides an opportunity for networking in order to make contacts for further sharing, all to improve patient outcomes and experience throughout the Trust.

With this in mind and with encouragement from the society, our team held a bake sale at CRH on Thursday (19 Nov), in order to raise the profile of Acute Medicine with all raised funds going to the Acute Medical Unit.

Acute Medicine unit Sister, Stacey McGowan who helped organise the event, told us, "The conferences we regularly attend give us an opportunity to share success stories amongst other things, and that is why we wanted to get involved when SAM suggested holding an event."
