Ste Walker, currently a patient on Ward 17 at HRI has launched an awareness campaign for the general public about disability which has gone viral.

Steve Walker, pictured with Sister Ria Petrovic, left,  and  staff nurse, Amy Emerson, is only 23 and qualifies for a disabled blue badge due to the complexity of his conditions. Yet because he is young and people see him parking and leaving a car in a disabled space they have questioned if he is faking it and some have openly quizzed his need for one.

When he recently posted on Facebook about his ordeal - from his hospital bed - it attracted more than 1,000 likes and he is featured on the front of today's Examiner.

He said: " I am trying to spread awareness and for people not to jump to conclusions. People think because I'm young I'm not really disabled  and am faking  I just want them to stop jumping to conclusions. That is all. "

Steve has been with us for many months and adds: "I have nothing but the best to say about all the team on Ward 17 who all know me so well."

Ria, said: " What he doing to raise awareness is great."
