Work on our Five Year plan – as required by Monitor by the end of the year - is now progressing well.

It’s all about us taking a long hard look at where we are now, setting out where we want to be in five years and how we are going to get there.

We want as many services to remain locally provided whether that is in our hospitals or in our communities so we are working closely with GPs and other partners to achieve this patch-wide transformation.

It’s not just about how we change.

At the end we should have a plan based on the recommendations made by the Strategic Review, recommendations from National Clinical Advisory Team (NCAT) during their review of the Trust and plans we have progressed  with other local providers in the Strategic Outline Case and  Outline Business Case.

By the end of December we need two things to be in place:

  •  short term - a CIP plan for 16-17
  •  long term - a 5 year plan to address two- site working and safety issues, financial issues and recruitment issues associated with that.

All staff can expect to be involved in the development of the plan over the coming weeks and months.

Some colleagues have already been involved and here’s some of what they say.

My Five Year Plan.... according to Jackie Murphy, pictured left, Mark Davies, centre, and Karol Rogawski:

Deputy Director of Nursing, Jackie Murphy:  “ For me as senior nurse, the Five Year Plan is about making sure we have a highly qualified and competent nursing workforce in order to deliver care as it is needed, when it is needed and where it is needed whether that is in community, in people’s home or in an acute hospital setting."

Clinical ED lead, Mark Davies: “To me it is all about getting our patients to where they can be cared for best."

Clinical Director of General and Specialist Surgery, Karol Rogawski: "The demand for diagnostic services in medical and surgical specialties will continue to grow in view of ageing population and higher rates of cancers and new targets for cancer referrals. The 5 Year plan the CHFT should consider expanding existing capacity of such services."

In the coming weeks and months more information about progress will be shared as it becomes available.

Trust Directors are keen to speak individually to each of our consultants about the key priorities the Trust has identified. Directors will have been in touch with you or your secretary to hear your views, please do take the opportunity to meet.
