Could EPR be the key to reducing pressure ulcers?

Any patient coming into hospital is at risk of developing a pressure ulcer.  Often bed-bound and more frequently in the old and frail, the sedentary nature of in-patient life means that every nurse knows pressure ulcers can be a patient’s worst enemy.

Whilst clinical teams know what to look out for when a patient is admitted, even the most meticulous assessments can sometimes miss key information hidden away in a thick paper folder or quickly written up on a note.

An EPR can help to put an end to this.  Easy-to-read patient notes and some clever computing which alerts clinicians to the risk of patient developing an ulcer take some of the detective work out of assessment.  Suggested care plans, reminders and easy recording of all treatments keeps the whole team up to date with everyone’s prevention efforts.
