First of all, a big thanks to everyone who responded.

Here is a summary of our findings.

Some of the areas where we are among the best Trusts in the country include a 9% increase in the number of staff saying they have had an appraisal (91% compared to 82% in 2013); staff reporting of incidents; and people believing they have equal opportunity for career progression.

Our overall engagement score, which measures an employee’s ability to contribute towards improvements, whether they would recommend the trust as a place to work or receive treatment and their motivation is better than average compared to other trusts.

The survey also shows areas where we need to focus and make improvements. These include staff receiving health and safety training; fairness and effectiveness of incident reporting procedures; staff experiencing physical violence from patients, relatives or the public; staff experiencing physical violence from staff and staff receiving equality and diversity training.

The Annual Staff Survey is just one way we collect feedback from colleagues. The views of staff are also sought three times a year as part of the Staff Friends and Family Test. An action plan is being developed to respond to the information from all four surveys.

Julie Hull, Director of Workforce and Organisational Development, said:  “The staff survey information provides the trust with valuable insight and over the next few weeks we will be responding to what our colleagues have told us.”

The results of the Staff  Survey 2014 have been published and are available on the intranet.

**Over 255,000 staff responded to the 2014 survey, a response rate of 42% - down from 49% in 2013.
