Trials of the new Nervecentre technology - aimed at improving patient safety -  are progressing well. CHFT Weekly went to see how the trials are going on Ward 4c at CRH and was met with an enthusiastic response.

The current focus for their use is on patient observations and handover modules. Nurses key in all the obs on a small handset and the information is sent electonically to the computer where it is stored. The information can go to the central computer on the main ward desk on on a portable computer to make access easier for all.

The handsets send an alert when obs are due and also when a patient's condition starts to change so early intervention is possible where needed.

Early verdicts from ward 4c included: "It means we don't have to always checking the time for when obs are due",  "we will never miss obs", "we always know when obs are due".

Project lead nurse Jackie Hallam thanked all colleagues for embracing the transformation work. She said: " These are exciting times and though challenging, will result in a safer care for our patients and improve the overall quality of care the receive."
