One of the country’s leading midwives - and a former colleague of ours - Jacque Gerrard came back for the opening of our new Maternity Assessment Centre (MAC) at Calderdale Royal Hospital.
The Centre - funded with a successful last minute bid to the DoH masterminded by current Head of Midwifery Anne-Marie Henshaw - opened on Tuesday and will provide a 24//7 A&E for maternity cases.
Clincal lead Martin deBono, paid tribute to Anne-Marie who made the successful 11th hour bid to the DH for funding and, as a result, the Trust and local patients now had the new unit offering midwife-led specialist care. He welcomed Jacque Gerrard, our former Head of Midwifery, now RCM Director England, "back home."
Jacque said the Trust already excelled at caring for low-risk mothers in its birth centres and the new unit would provide the same excellence for high risk mums on a midwife-led unit as outpatients. She said: "CHFT will be showing people how it is done. This is wonderful and I congratulate the Trust for the support the project has received. The leadership here speaks for itself."
