Across the Trust, training will be taking place at HRI (October) and CRH (November) to facilitate the roll out of the new glucometers.
- The new meter is the Roche Accu-Chek Inform II.
- Installation of the new meters will take place from the end of September/October.
- Training is mandatory for all authorised users of the current glucometer to meet the Trust Policy for Medical Devices – No training means there will be no access to the new glucometer.
- As soon as an area has achieved 70% of authorised staff trained, they will be able to use the new glucometer and the old glucometer withdrawn.
- Training dates and venue will be released shortly; each session will be 1hour with a maximum of 20people.
- At the training sessions staff will be issued with a barcode so must attend with their Trust ID Badge, as the barcode is non-transferable between users.
Ward Managers and Link Nurses are invited to an Introductory Meeting with Roche, each session will last approximately 1 hour with lunch provided, please book a time slot with Jayne Blakey, as per below.
- 28thSeptember 2015 – HRI, Acre Mill Level 3, starting at 11, 12, 1pm.
- 29th September 2015 – CRH, ICU Seminar Room, starting at 11, 12, 1pm.
The new glucometer focuses on Patient Safety;
- Only trained staff will be able to use them, due to userlock out function.
- Provides a full audit trail.
- Positive Patient ID will be used to identify the patient before carrying out the test.
- Only a fully functioning meter will give a result.
- Results will be available to the Diabetes Team by a connectivity package to aid better monitoring.
- Results will in future be available on the EPR.
Please Note: This change only affects hospital-based meters and community teams are not affected.
