Our CHFT Funball group started last night (Wednesday) - with lots of fun, laughter and dashing around for those who came along.

Senior Finance Manager, Paula Crowther, Georgia Lane - daughter of district nurse matron Caroline Lane, and Systems Development Accountant, Sarah Laherty have set the club up (see below).

Paula said: "What a fantastic 1st Funball session last night!

"Everyone worked really hard and gave 100% whilst having a few laughs too.

"I was really impressed by the skills and ability as most of the group had never played before...watch out Ronaldo!!

"A big thanks to all the group for coming and giving it a go, to the coaches Sarah and Georgia who were fantastic, and finally to West Riding FA & Steve Conboy for supporting and funding the group.

"Plenty of rest ladies.. Bring on next week!! #thisgirlcan #womensfootball"

Senior Manager for Transformation and Partnerships, Claire Sibbald (4th from right) said "I just wanted to say how good the session was last night. I have never played football except kicking a ball around with my son so was a bit nervous, but we were made to feel completely at ease and all the coaches were really encouraging.  It was really good fun and to be honest I forgot I was exercising".

There is stll time to get involved. The group will meet most Wednesdays at 5.45 at Moor End Academy (inside to start with). The next sessions are on the 19th, 26th Feb and 11th March. Lots more dates planned.

Our running club also met last week. Lead Cancer Nurse, Chris Button, said " The first Couch to 5k session was really good, with a small group to start with, though there is still time to get iinvolved.

"Everybody enjoyed it and importantly individuals met others that they had never met before. And they all survived the run/walk/run/walk plan that is the couch to 5k plan and they all enjoyed the run and support they had".

It's still early enough to get involved. The group meet every Thursday at 5pm outside the Macmillan Unit at CRH. Chris laid a few basics:

  • Please wear comfortable clothing and trainers, suitable for the weather conditions on the day.
  • You may bring a drink with you if you wish, though if you’ve kept well hydrated throughout the day you might not feel you need one whilst out - avoid bringing those large water bottles as they can be difficult to run with.
  • Please download the app ready to use on our first day. It's called One You Couch to 5K by Public Health England. https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/one-you-couch-to-5k/id1082307672 (photo below).
