The CHFT Running Group is good to go.  And it's free to take part.

The first run is next Thursday Feb 6th - leaving from outside the Macmillan Centre at CRH at 5pm  - and for the next 10 weeks on the same day, same place at the same time.

It is aimed at completing the 10 week Couch to 5K programme.

Lead Cancer Nurse, Chris Button explains:"This is an absolute beginners group, following the Couch to 5k app. It will be very gentle, with no expectations placed on anyone. It’s purely about getting moving, meeting new people and getting fitter. And ...it’s FREE!!  So come along. Please don’t leave me stood there like Billy no mates ha ha!"

As well as the CHFT run you will need to complete the two other runs each week in your own time – perhaps with friends or colleagues you meet in this group.

At the end of the course there will be an optional opportunity to run a local park run. (Our main photo shows some of the team supporting this group are pictured running the Halifax Park Run in December).

  • Please wear comfortable clothing and trainers, suitable for the weather conditions on the day.
  • You may bring a drink with you if you wish, though if you’ve kept well hydrated throughout the day you might not feel you need one whilst out - avoid bringing those large water bottles as they can be difficult to run with.
  • Please download the app ready to use on our first day. It's called One You Couch to 5K by Public Health England. https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/one-you-couch-to-5k/id1082307672 (photo below).

Chris added: "Be brave, it will be worth it! And we can all help each other, so try not to worry too much as we will all be beginners".

Please let us know if you’re going to come by sending Christopher.button@cht.nhs.uk a message? This will help us provide the right amount of support on the day. Or mail me with any questions.

Starting: Thursday 6th February

Time: 5pm – for approximately 40 minutes

Meeting place: Outside the Macmillan Unit at Calderdale Royal Infirmary

The group will meet on the same day and time each week for 10 weeks.
