Colleagues can get an insight into what it’s like to live with autism when the Autism Reality Experience comes to North Bridge Leisure Centre on Wednesday 5 February.

People taking part in the experience are given simple tasks to do while distracted by flashing lights, noises, smells and textures, simulating the heightened sensory input experienced by those with autism.

More information on the experience can be found at www.calderdaleccg.nhs.uk/action-autism

The awareness-raising attraction is coming to Halifax National Children’s Mental Health Week as part of a summit being organised and led by young people from Calderdale with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

During the event they’ll share views on Calderdale’s health and education systems and their dreams for the future with other young people, parents and carers, and representatives from Calderdale’s education, community and health services.

The Autism Reality Experience will be open to staff from 9.30am to 4.30pm. The experience takes around five minutes, however, please expect to queue if you have not booked a slot.

There are plans for the experience to return later in the year, when members of the public will also be able to take part.
