Kath Stubbington, our Ward manager at the HRI discharge lounge, always wanted to be a nurse - as you'll see from her  oh-so-cute picture all-pinnied up and hat on aged seven.

She's our latest screensaver star as CHFT celebrates 2020 Year of the Nurse and Midwife. If you - or your colleague - want to feature then call Comms and we'll do the rest.

So Kath, why did you want to become a nurse?

I always wanted to be a nurse, from being little. I made a hospital with my toys and pretended to care for my parents lol. I've always been a people person, and I always put other people before myself, wanting to do my best for others and I feel I am a caring person, . I try to show the 6 cs whenever I'm delivering care to patients, but never forgetting those around me that I work with. My work family call me a "feeder" because I'm always baking and bringing in treats .

Why is it a fab career?

Nursing is a career I couldn't imagine not doing which is why I've been with this Trust since the commencement of my training January 1993.  It’s a fulfilling job, with its challenges and of course its rewards. You have your home family and your work family  which gets you through the tough times. Yesterday an elderly gentleman commented on my smile. A smile means everything to some people .

Sum up nursing in three words:

Mmm a hard one ! I guess more a motto "never stop caring"
