It's been a top year for the Stroke Ward - with colleagues pulling together loads of fab activites for patients, and doing plenty of fund raising too. Here's a photo of the Christmas Tree Day that was held last week, which went down a storm with our patients and their families.

Clinical Academic Nurse, Gary Miles, who works on the ward at Halifax wanted to send a huge shout out to colleagues, not only for their efforts to support their patients this Christmas (see the activity planner below), but all year-round.

In particular he thanks Engagement Support Workers Sami Justice, Denise Robinson, and Healthcare Assistant, Annette Ronaldson.

Here's what Gary told us:

About Sami and Denise

"Sami and Denise are a fantastic driving force on the Stroke Ward, engaging patients with creative and fun activities including: painting, making seasonal decorations and listening to what an individual patient wants to achieve. They both have fabulous personalities, always show empathy and compassion to their patients and colleagues and the Stroke team and our Trust are lucky to have both of them working for us."

 About Annette...

"Annette is an excellent healthcare assistant showing empathy, compassion and a ‘happy go lucky’ disposition for our patients. Annette works closely with Sami and Denise (Engagement Support Workers) making Christmas and seasonal decorations and also inspires patients to engage with activities.

"We are very fortunate that Annette is a star and shows teamwork dedication!"

And finally...

"I wanted to mention that ward sister, Andrea Moore always goes the extra mile thinking of patient engagement activities and shows real empathy and compassion. Thank-you Andrea".

These efforts top off a great year for the team at Halifax.

During Stroke Awareness Week in May the team raised £800, including support from ISS. Colleagues also took part in Todmorden Boundary Week, Dr Anand Nair held a Q&A session for patients, relatives and colleagues.
