CHFT are supporting this year’s World Breastfeeding Awareness Week from Saturday 1st – Friday 7th August.

As part of the campaign CHFT is asking as many people as possible to post a picture of themselves on Twitter or any social media, holding a piece of paper that says #ItsOnlyNaturalBreastfeeding

The picture can be taken from anywhere around the world, including holiday destinations or in your back garden! Participants don’t need to have breastfed and we would like mums, dads, grandparents and young adults to post, the more the merrier they just need to support breastfeeding.

Infant feeding Coordinator/ Health Visitor, Alison Bottomley said: “We would like to encourage more mums to breast feed. It is a very valuable thing to do for both for mum and baby. Statistics show breastfed babies are less likely to be hospitalised in their first year of life which is quite something. This awareness campaign will indicate to the general public who subscribe to social media, the amount of supporters of breastfeeding around plus raise awareness that it is a natural thing to do.”

“As it is so often very discreet people often think breastfeeding is not that common, but 39-43% of babies are still breastfeeding in Calderdale at six weeks.”

“We’ll be waiting with baited breath to see how many people get behind our campaign so we can promote it further.”

Babies are still breastfeeding at six weeks which many people may not be aware of. We are trying to break down the barriers on what many see as a taboo subject but in fact it is one of the most natural things in the world for a mother to do”

To join in with the campaign tweet/facebook/Instagram/snapchat a photo of you/your family holding a sign with our hashtag #ItsOnlyNaturalBreastfeeding and caption it (if not on twitter) #ItsOnlyNaturalBreastfeeding.
