The Moving Forward* programme is a development programme aimed at Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) colleagues who are Band 5 or 6.

The programme was hosted by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust this year and four places were offered to CHFT colleagues.  The programme is made up of five modules; emotional intelligence, positive thinking and action, developing support systems and resilience, practical tools for career progression and relationship management.  The four colleagues who undertook the programme this year are

Staff Nurse in Research and Development, Samantha Mellor; Deputy Finance Manager, Barbara Membe-Makhalira, Governance Administrator, Michelle Augustine and Assistant Medical Human Resources Manager, Bina Ullah.

Michelle, told CHFT Weekly: "I've really enjoyed having the opportunity to take part in this year's Moving Forward programme.  The facilitators were very informative and the modules beneficial, especially those on emotional intelligence and positive thinking and action - techniques which I now use on a daily basis.  I would highly recommend the course as it gives you the knowledge, skills and tools needed to 'move forward'."

Congratulations to them all for completing the programme!

** The Moving Forward programme is a leadership development programme for aspiring black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) colleagues who work within healthcare (the NHS or an organisation providing NHS care).

It aims to create greater levels of sustainable inclusion within the NHS by addressing the social, organisational and psychological barriers restricting BAME colleagues from progressing.

It is designed to bridge the gap between where applicants are and where they need to be, to progress into more senior roles. Successful applicants will be empowered to drive forward the inclusion agenda and develop their skills and abilities in order to grow and progress.
