Almost 2000 colleagues - 35% - have so far  had their say in the NHS Staff Survey.

We're aiming to beat last year's response rate of 51%, and the engagement team is poised and ready with iPads and can come to your area to help colleagues have their say.

Sam (left) and Anya (right), from the team, are pictured here with ward clerk Nollaig Byrne and midwife Jessica Craner on the HRI Birth Centre, showing them just how easy it is to fill in.

They will help colleagues locate their individual survey in their emails and set them off completing it. They can also help with what the questions might mean too.

With just over a forttnight until the survey closes on Friday 29th November, it's important as many colleagues as possible fill in their survey because the higher the response rate, the more confident we can be that the survey findings are representative of colleagues' views at CHFT as a whole.

If you would like Anya and Sam to come to your area please email engagementteam@cht.nhs.uk - and please arrange to release colleagues to give them the time to do it.

Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about the survey:

Q  - Who are Picker and is it anonymous?
The company is called Picker. Great care is taken to ensure that the staff survey is anonymous. By using an external provider, this guarantees that the ‘customer organisation’ i.e. us, has no access to their staff’s completed surveys. Picker then send the anonymised responses directly to the NHS Staff Survey Coordination Centre to analyse. The results are sent back to us in a series of reports which are provided in a summary form so that no one can be identified.

Q - What devices can I complete it on?

You can complete the survey on your phone/tablet if you have access to work emails or on your computer at work. Those  colleagues on maternity leave it is pen and paper!

Q - Will I get a reminder?

Those colleagues who haven't yet completed it get an email reminder every Monday. If you have 365 then don't forget to check both your Focused and Other email folders.

Q - What happens with the results?
The surveys are collated by Picker and the response data is sent to the Staff Survey Coordination Centre. The Coordination Centre are then able to provide organisations with analysis at local Division/Directorate/Staff Group level as well as Trust level to compare their performance with other organisations of a similar type. The comments are only looked at by a select few in the organisation so that themes can be pulled out and addressed. The free text comments are only looked at by a select few in the organisation so that themes can be pulled out and addressed. The themes are then distributed to Senior Managers and HRBP’s for the real work to begin. Our HRBP’s have been holding focus groups, WTGR sessions and even tea trollies rounds.

Q - What happens if I miss the closing date?
It’s a national survey, and to ensure consistency all organisations are given the same length of time for responses to be received. Unfortunately you will not be able to complete the survey if you miss the end date.

Q - Do I have to complete the survey?

This is your opportunity to give your opinion and view about our Trust. It is important that as many staff members as possible complete the questionnaire. The higher the survey response rate, the more confident we can be that the survey findings are representative of the views of staff at the organisation as a whole.
