Karen English who is the lead blood transfusion scientist has retired after working in the NHS for almost 40 years and 15 years of that at CHFT.

Her colleagues will miss her enthusiasm and outgoing personality.

General Manager, Sarah Ramsden,  told colleagues at her farewell presentation, "Karen has an extremely impressive and in-depth knowledge of everything transfusion and has always been willing to share this with her fellow BMS friends & colleagues. We are not aware of a single case where her analysis of a clinical situation has been incorrect.

"As many of you will know the experienced Karen is no wallflower. She has an outgoing personality full of enthusiasm for the world of transfusion and is rarely (if ever) stuck for words. She is extremely well respected and loved by her work friends & colleagues.

"Any of you who have attended any external meetings with her will know that she knows everyone but one recurring theme seems to come up time and time again and that is her love of a nice G&T  - along as she doesn't get stuck under a piano! That is something that we may have to recreate on the Christmas party.

"All this said, Karen you truly are 1 in a million and as you retire you will not only be missed by your pathology colleagues but the wider CHFT network. Now kick back, relax and drink gin"

She ended with: " She is an integral part if the transfusion team and will be deeply missed."
