Amazing Barry Ackroyd will be back in action as Batman tomorrow to lead CHFT's Children in Need efforts - despite an accident with a circular saw.

He has lost the top half of his thumb, is undergoing ongoing treatment to save the nerves in his little finger and several other fingers were cut as he was making wooden reindeers in his cellar for his grandson's school's Christmas activities.

Barry - our driver - is always active for the big annual fundraising day of the year. He said: "I had all the guards in place and it just happened. I looked down and saw my thumb in the sawdust. When I went to wash my hand I knew I needed A&E. I took my thumb end with me but it couldn't be reattached. It wasn't painful as the saw was so sharp and it happened so quickly. All the attention is now on my little finger."

He had planned to have a fundraiser involving stocks and custard pies and will stage that another time.
