The amazing Hello My Name Is..... campaign - started by HRI-born Dr Kate Granger - is having a huge impact on our patients' experience here at CHFT.

Our cute photo shows Midwife Emily O'Flynn introducing herself to new mum Jenna McGill and her 15- hour old baby Sienna. She gets it right and the smiles show it makes all the difference.

It's only four little words but Dr Granger realised something was missing in terms of communications when she was a patient under going cancer treatment.

She visited us in 2014 and sadly died in 2016 aged just 34 but her legacy continues to be the Hello My Name Is... campaign right across the NHS nationwide, and here at CHFT our feedback certainly reflects a massive impact.

Quality Improvement Manager for Patient Experience, Alison Lodge, said: “There is no getting away from the impact of four little words. We know how much it means to our patients yet we also know some of us aren’t always as good at introducing ourselves.

"It’s the initial point of contact and gives an opportunity to create a first impression of providing compassionate care and putting patients at ease. It is so important for our patients and their families that we get it right.”

Our Friends and Family Trust feedback show that this is an embedded behaviour in areas across the Trust. Here's what our patients are telling us:

  • I have felt really safe and confident with the care that I’ve received. Every staff member introduced themselves all very professional and compassionate. Great care. Thank you
  • Every member of staff who attended to me, introduced themselves to me and were always polite
  • The staff are professional, friendly and very caring. Everyone from domestics, staff nurses, play therapists and doctors always introduced themselves with a smile and they were family centred in their approach.
  • Everyone introduced themselves and explained everything.
  • Everything being explained as the procedure was taking place, put at ease and introduced to everyone
  • Very friendly and put me at ease. All team members introduced themselves which was good.
  • Friendly, informative staff. Kind, gentle and everyone introduced themselves!
  • Staff were very kind and professional.  Doctor introduced himself and explained everything that was happening
  • The staff were very friendly, and introduced themselves.
  • Staff introduced themselves, kept me informed about the treatment and procedures.

Additionally the last National Maternity Survey also placed the Trust in the ‘better’ than most other Trusts range for the question ‘Did the staff treating and examining you introduce themselves?’, with an average score of 9.6 out of a possible 10.
