Project Search is starting its third year at CRH continuing its amazing work.

It is an employability course for young people aged 18-25 years, who have an Education, Health and Care plan and couldn’t run without the help and support of some amazing staff here at CHFT!

The interns work five days a week on work placements around the hospital, receiving on the job training, feedback and support from not only the project SEARCH staff, but their wonderful managers and mentors in the different departments.

The end goal is to help the interns gain paid employment or an apprenticeship. James King from the first course, completed a placement in Pathology and he so impressed so much they took him on for a second placement too and following that offered him an apprenticeship. Two people from the last course are also employed by the NHS. Bailey Bowman started and is a fulltime house keeper at A&E in Huddersfield, he started in August and Liam Hardy is on the WOD rotational apprenticeship at Huddersfield, which he again started in August.

Other interns have found work after the course in other areas. One young man works in Macdonald's, one is a maintenance man at Calderdale College and one young lady has just started an apprenticeship at Craggies farmshop. We also have two students who are currently in the NHS talent pool for apprenticeships.

How to apply

For someone to get on to the Project SEARCH course they would send in an application form, which would be available online or by contacting Calderdale College. They would then (if appropriate) be invited for an assessment day, here at CRH, which consists of several short tasks and an interview. We would then offer the successful interns a place on the year long course.
